Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act goes into effect on June 1. Surachai Chatchalermpun, country cybersecurity and privacy officer for Huawei Thailand, discusses how it differs from the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation and offers advice on meeting the requirements of the PDPA.

"IT and security teams need to engage with legal and compliance teams to interpret the various regulations of PDPA and do the gap analysis. This is the first thing all companies need to do. They need to have good communication to get support from top management and from the board of directors," Chatchalermpun says.

Chatchelermpun is the country cybersecurity and privacy officer at Huawei. Previously, he was CISO at Krungthai Bank, which is the largest state-owned enterprise in Thailand, and regional head of IT security at Maybank, responsible for five countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
